As someone who is graduating in 2 weeks I am spending hours upon hours looking for the right job. Looking for a job in Electronic Media can be a good and bad thing. There are so many different avenues and paths you can take. For me, I know that I want a editing or production job, but it’s not always that straight foreword. Most jobs require all aspects for Electronic Media. I have a few off the beaten path ways of job searching. The first place that I check everyday for new jobs is Lost Remote. You can find them at http://jobs.lostremote.com/. This Web site is a site for lots of digital media, but I use it for digital media jobs.
Another cool site that I look at is Media Match. I check the job boards daily. You can check out their site at www.media-match.com/jobboards.php. This site is subscription based, but they offer a discounted rate for current students and recent graduates. I have found these sites to be worth paying for because of the discount and the amount of jobs that you are given access to. The only drawback is that a lot of the posted jobs are for freelance work. Right now, I can’t afford to do only freelance work. I think it might be hard to make a steady living doing freelance work.
I check TV Jobs occasionally. I specifically look for only production jobs because that I the area that I’m most into. They list writing, editing, and other production houses and jobs. You can check out their site at http://media411.tvjobs.com/.
Another area that I am specifically interested in is sports media. I am very passionate about sports and I want to do something that I enjoy and can be passionate about. Combining a job in media and in sports is like my ultimate dream. I found a site through Yahoo! Hot Jobs that I have registered with and receive weekly e-mails from. The Web site is www.workinsports.com.
You have to register, but the registration is free. It allows you select a region that you want to work in and will keep you updated on openings in sports media.
A Web site that is a little more mainstream than some of the others I’ve listed is Oodle. This is a site that is similar to Craigslist. It lets you buy and sell things, but it also has job listings. You can select a city or region and different areas like art, production, writing, and other media avenues to search through. I have applied for jobs in both Dallas and Houston that I found on this site. You can check it out at www.oodle.com.
Job searching in general can be a long and tedious process. Trust me, I know from personal experience how hard it can be. Hopefully, with the use of the Web sites I listed above, you can help further your job search quest and be successful. If not you can also check out traditional job search engines like Monster, Yahoo! Hot Jobs, and Craigslist. Also, sometimes you can find media jobs on Facebook.
